Gesture and speech in interaction: An overview
نویسندگان
چکیده
Gestures and speech interact. They are linked in language production and perception, with their interaction contributing to felicitous communication. The multifaceted nature of these interactions has attracted considerable attention from the speech and gesture community. This article provides an overview of our current understanding of manual and head gesture form and function, of the principle functional interactions between gesture and speech aiding communication, transporting meaning and producing speech. Furthermore, we present an overview of research on temporal speech-gesture synchrony, including the special role of prosody in speech-gesture alignment. In addition, we provide a summary of tools and data available for gesture analysis, and describe speech-gesture interaction models and simulations in technical systems. This overview also serves as an introduction to a Special Issue covering a wide range of articles on these topics. We provide links to the Special Issue throughout this paper. ! 2013 Elsevier B.V. Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition
With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

متن کاملTowards an Autarkic Embedded Cognitive User Interface
With this paper we present an overview of an autarkic embedded cognitive user interface. It is realized in form of an integrated device able to communicate with the user over speech & gesture recognition, speech synthesis and a touch display. Semantic processing and cognitive behaviour control support intuitive interaction and help controlling arbitrary electronic devices. To ensure user privac...

In recent years human-machine interaction has increased its importance. One approach to an ideal human-machine interaction is develop a multi-modal system behaves like human-beings. This paper introduces an overview on multimodal corpora which are currently developed in Japan for the purpose. The paper describes database of 1)Multi-modal interaction, 2)Audio-visual speech, 3)Spoken dialogue wit...
